Executive Board Elections 2024

In January of 2024, the South Jersey Young Democrats will be holding elections for all executive board positions. In order to be nominated for a position and for your name to appear on the ballot at our 2024 Reorganization Meeting you must fill out an application and submit a completed nomination petition by December 31st, 2023. You can find the criteria, descriptions of each position, and can access the application and petition below. The petition must be completed and submitted with the application.

Election Day

Criteri

The following criteria must be met in order to be nominated to a position:

​

1. Be a registered Democrat

2. Reside full-time in one of the following New Jersey counties: Camden, Gloucester, Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland and Salem.

3. Be 40 years old or younger at the time of election.

4. Complete the online Executive Board Nomination Application

5. Upload a petition with the names and information for registered Democrats who reside full time in Camden, Gloucester, Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland or Salem counties and are under the age of 40.

          *Note: 20 names are required on the petition for seeking the position of President and 10                                 names are required for all other positions

The following criteria must be met in order to be elected to a position: 

​

1. Must attend the re-organization meeting in January. 

2. Must be elected by a plurality of young Democrats (who meet the same requirements as the petition) at the re-organization meeting.

 

Positions

 

Excerpt from Article IV, Section 4, of the South Jersey Young Democrats By-Laws

 

A. President: The President shall have the following duties:

  1. To preside at all Annual Meetings, General Membership Meetings, and Executive Board Officers Meetings;

  2. To appoint the Chairperson and the membership of all committees constituted by the Executive Board Officers. However, the President may not appoint him or herself as a Chairperson;

  3. To serve as an ex-officio member of all committees;

  4. To serve as the titular head of the Organization 

 

 B. Vice President: The Vice President shall have the following duties:

  1. To manage the operations and oversee the logistics of all meetings and events hosted by the SJYDO;

  2. To preside at Annual Meetings, General Membership Meetings, and Executive Board Officers Meetings in the absence of the President;

  3. To assist the President in the performance of his or her duties.

 

 C. Treasurer: The Treasurer shall have the following duties:

  1. To be a custodian of all funds paid to the SJYDO;

  2. To deposit all funds of the SJYDO, in his/her custody, in such bank that the Executive Board Officers shall designate, subject to the joint order of the President and himself/herself;

  3. To maintain complete and accurate accounts of all monies received and disbursed by him/her;

  4. Prepare and file such financial statements as may be required by law, and by direction the Executive Board Officers, for all funds received by him/her;

  5. To render at the direction of the President a complete financial report at each Executive Board Meeting. Said report shall be complete as to receipts and disbursements to date. Said report is to be approved by a majority of the quorum present;

  6. Render an income statement and balance sheet as directed by the President. 

 

 D. Secretary: The Secretary shall have the following duties:

  1. To take full and accurate minutes of all Annual Meetings, General Membership Meetings, and Executive Board Officers Meetings;

  2. To prepare all documents necessary for day-to-day functions of the SJYDO including correspondence with members and meeting notices;

  3. To oversee any website, newsletter, social media accounts, or mailings approved by the Executive Board Officers.

 

E. Sergeant-at-Arms: The Sergeant-at-Arms shall have the following duties:

  1. To maintain a list of all members in good standing;

  2. To assist the President in maintaining order at all meetings;

  3. To distribute paper ballots at all contested elections.

G. Recruitment Chair: shall have the following duties: 

  1. ​To oversee and facilitate the addition of new SJYDO members

  2. To coordinate with the Sergeant-At-Arms in maintaining a list of members in good standing.

  3. To inform the President of actions needed to promote and retain new members.
